Heat or Percussion: Choosing the Right Massager
Massagers broadly split into two families — those that apply warmth and slow pressure, and those that apply rapid percussion. Choosing between them is mostly about which part of the body you are treating.
Where heat and kneading work
Shiatsu-style nodes with a heat mode suit the neck, shoulders and lower back. The motion is slow and broad, which is what those areas tolerate well while you are sitting still.
Where percussion works
Percussion tools suit large limb muscles — quads, calves, glutes. The stroke is short and fast, and it is best used on muscle bulk rather than close to bone or joints.
Overlap in the middle
For general stiffness after a long day, a heated pillow unit is usually the easier thing to reach for. Percussion earns its place if you train regularly and want something targeted.
